How to set up and calibrate the goniophotometer?
A goniophotometer
is a photometer used to assess the light coming from off-axis sources. The
usage of goniophotometers has skyrocketed in recent years due to the
proliferation of LED lighting in the automobile sector.
A black tunnel, or tunnel
protected by black baffles, is ideal for using the goniophotometer. Because of
the potential for errors introduced by stray light, the dark tunnel is
essential for reliable testing results.
System setup
The goniophotometer will
be exposed to ambient lighting instead of the dark tube. Aligning the
goniophotometer, baffles, and the detector is essential for obtaining reliable
test results. It is also called light intensity meter.
Baffle design
Both baffle one and
baffle two are made of the same materials and have the same structure. The
plastic board is an excellent alternative to several other materials due to its
low price and weight.
A t-slotted aluminum
profile is used to construct the frame that surrounds the whiteboard. The
assembly and disassembly of any building manufactured using a T-slotted
aluminum profile are simple and do not need additional labor costs.
Additionally, aluminum is
far less heavy than steel. It is possible to install four rollers equipped with
brakes below the frame to move them to any needed area. There are less than one
hundred pounds of weight in each baffle.
Alignment and calibration
When producing precise
findings with the goniophotometer, alignment is one of the most critical
variables. The goniophotometer, three baffles, and detector should all be
aligned with the laser. It's a hundred feet from the detector to the
goniophotometer. The technique for adjusting the alignment of the system is
illustrated below.
- Put the laser on top of the goniophotometer, so there is no rotating angle.
- Place two whiteboards over the windows on baffles 1 and 2 to obscure their view.
- First, it should fix the location of the baffle; then, the baffle should be calibrated such that the laser hits its center point.
- It must first remove the lid to enable the laser to go through baffle 1.
- Fix the location of baffle 2 when you have calibrated it to the point where the laser is striking the center of its target.
- Please remove the lid on the baffle so the laser can freely go through it.
